Who is obligated to report child abuse?
In New Jersey, all people are legally required to report abuse if they have reasonable suspicion that a child is being abused or in danger of abuse.
How is child abuse prevented?
Children depend on adults to keep them safe. At HCCAPC, we strive to empower people to keep kids safe. We conduct workshops on Physical Signs and Behavioral Indicators of Abuse, Positive Discipline, Personal Safety, and other topics so people have correct information. We work with teachers, social workers, youth workers, counselors, and day care providers to make sure they know about child abuse.
Child abuse can be prevented when:
*Adults learn the Signs and Indicators of Abuse
*Children feel empowered to speak up when they feel uncomfortable or unsafe
*Adults assume responsibility for the safety of children when a child discloses abuse.
*Parents realize there is no such thing as the "Perfect Parent" or the "Perfect Child."
*Parents develop discipline methods which include rewarding positive behavior and punishing negative behavior without violence, force or pain.
